While having fun with a facial mask, I use this video piece as a way to examine the tactics women go through to obtain beauty. I fight against the constraining facial mask with exaggerated gestures, creating wrinkles in the mask. As I begin peeling the mask, the exaggerated sounds emphasize the strange rituals we put ourselves through. It is also a comment on how women feel pressured by society to appear young.
This video uses performance and humor to show the absurdity of conforming to a certain idea of beautiful while commenting on plastic surgery.
This interactive video sculpture aims to incite viewers to examine the cultural constraints put upon their self-image, to question our definition of feminine beauty, and to encourage a dialogue about unnecessary surgery, implants, and augmentation. It is a comment not necessarily on the women who have the surgery but on why this procedure even exists.
